Magic Board School — 120 Street Children

A free daily school in Nazirartek, Cox's Bazar, for children who would otherwise have no education at all.

Magic Board School — ম্যাজিক বোর্ড স্কুল — is Social Care's flagship education programme. Established in 2023, it gives 120 street children a free daily education in Cox's Bazar.

Where it is

The school is located at Mostak Para, Nazirartek, Ward 1, Cox's Bazar Municipality — one of the most marginalised neighbourhoods in the district. The children who attend come from families working in the dried-fish yards and the informal economy around them; without the school, almost none of them would be in any form of education.

What the children receive

  • Free daily classes — no fees of any kind
  • Learning materials and a school kit: a school bag, a math set, six pencils, a ruler, six pens, two erasers and two sharpeners ($3.20 per kit)
  • A safe and supervised place to spend the day
  • An annual sports and cultural competition with a prize-giving ceremony

Why a street school works here

Government schooling exists, but for a child whose family depends on their daily labour, a conventional school is out of reach — the uniform, the materials and the hours are all obstacles. Magic Board School removes every one of them. The children come as they are, the materials are provided, and the family loses nothing by sending them.

For partner organisations

Magic Board School is the programme most partner organisations visit first, because it is a single, visible place where the work can be seen rather than a distribution that happens once and ends. Organisations support it in several ways:

  • Funding school kits at $3.20 per child
  • Sponsoring the running costs of the school for a defined period
  • Funding the annual sports and cultural competition
  • Child sponsorship for the most vulnerable children

Partner organisations funding the school receive photographs, video and class records, and are welcome to visit the school when in Bangladesh.
